Forty Creek Three Grain 2020
Old is new with Forty Creek Twentieth Anniversary Three Grain bottled at 40% abv.
A welcome revival of one of the original Forty Creek whiskies. When Forty Creek Distillery was just getting off the ground, distiller, John K. Hall introduced two whiskies, Forty Creek Three Grain and the now classic Forty Creek Barrel Select.
When Barrel Select started to take off, a shrewd marketing sense prompted Hall to focus his efforts on that whisky, and Three Grain was discontinued. It proved to be a wise decision as Barrel Select made huge gains in Canada and key US markets.
Still, whisky lovers who remembered the succulent, barley-rich Three Grain lamented its loss. Small batches have since been released from time to time in some markets and now, one final batch has been blended to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Forty Creek’s entry into the whisky market.
A creamy, fruity, mouth-filling whisky with nutty barley and hints of sweet pipe tobacco. Hot and spicy on the palate with some slight suggestions of red wine. Classic dusty rye notes meld into peppery spices on a sweetish finish. Does the original Three Grain proud.
